Tavisupleba

"Tavisupleba" (in Georgian თავისუფლება) is the new national anthem of Georgia. The title means "Freedom". It was adopted on 23 April 2004. "Tavisupleba" succeeds the old anthem Dideba zetsit kurtheuls, adopted after Georgia's independence from the Soviet Union. The lyrics are by Davit Maghradze (დავით მაღრაძე), music by Zakaria Paliashvili (ზაქარია ფალიაშვილი). The music and lyrics were adapted into an anthem by Ioseb Kechakmadze (იოსებ კეჭაყმაძე).

in Georgian:

English translation

My icon is my motherland,
And the whole world is its icon-stand.
Bright mounts and valleys
Are shared with God
Today our freedom
Sings to the glory of future,
The dawn star rises up
And shines out between two seas.
Praise be to liberty,
Praise be to liberty!

(English translation is done by David Chikvaidze)
